Peter Ward

+ biography

Peter spent his early career with PA Consulting and Marley Tiles

Following his desire to pursue his entrepreneurial streak, he acquired a family-business called Brierley Brothers in 1974.

Over the following years he grew and developed this business to become the leading independently owned importer and supplier of packaging and goods not for resale to supermarkets in the UK, including major customers such as ASDA, Coop and Sainsbury’s. Peter has many years experience of successfully sourcing product from the Far East and has established an unrivalled network of contacts in this region.

Peter sold his family business in 1999, and has since then been involved in several successful business start-ups including Doric Anderton, based in Manchester.

In 2006, Peter co-founded Casper with Christoph Sander and David Wallwork.

Peter is a keen sportsman and played rugby for Manchester Rugby club where he was also Chairman for several years.

Christoph Sander

+ biography

Christoph was educated in Germany, Portugal, the UK and USA and holds a degree in Economics from Cambridge University, and an MBA from Harvard.

His early career was spent on international assignments with the Boston Consulting Group. He subsequently joined the Harpur Group as Managing Director of the Private Label division, which provided outsourcing solutions to oil companies, hotel groups and other large end-users in Europe and the Far East.

From 1993 until 2005 he worked for Bunzl plc, and led Bunzl’s rapid growth in Europe from its inception via a small acquisition in south London into a highly successful international business with sales in excess of £1 billion and operations in 11 countries. Under Christoph’s leadership, Bunzl in Europe acquired numerous family-owned businesses and integrated them successfully to become the clear market leader. He was appointed a main Board Director of Bunzl in 2004, and Chief Executive designate in 2005.

After leaving Bunzl, Christoph co-founded Casper in 2006 with Peter Ward and David Wallwork.

He is also a non-executive director of ISS A/S, the international cleaning and facilities management group headquartered in Copenhagen, which is owned by EQT Partners and Goldman Sachs.

Christoph is a keen sportsman, and is Captain of the Honourable Artillery Company Veterans football team based in London.

David Wallwork

+ biography

David began his career with Chloride Batteries and Lever Industrial.

He later joined Deb, the specialist manufacturer of hand soaps, and rose to become Chief Executive of Deb in the UK and USA. During this time, Deb developed highly successfully to become the leading and most successful player in its field, growing at the fastest rate in its history under his leadership. Deb was subsequently sold to Barclays Private Equity in a deal worth £120M.

In 2001 David joined Bunzl as Managing Director of the Retail and Healthcare business, where he led the transformation of the business from a family company to a highly successful division within a plc. He was subsequently promoted to the role of Group Purchasing Director, where he was responsible for the key supplier relationships and sourcing initiatives across all of Bunzl’s countries of operation in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

David left Bunzl in 2006 in order to co-found Casper with Peter Ward and Christoph Sander.

David is a keen sportsman, and represented Lancashire as Captain of the U-19's Cricket team. He has also ran several marathons for charity in both London and New York.
Operations Director
Martin Higson

+ biography

After spending his early working life in catering Management, Martin began his business career with Beecham Group (now part of Glaxo Smithkline) working for several divisions in sales, sales training and various management roles. He then spent time developing his sales and operations management skills with, amongst others, Bass before joining Automatic Catering Supplies, then part of GKN.

From 1993 he worked for Bunzl plc, most recently as part of their UK and Ireland senior management team. During his 13 years with the company, he was heavily involved with the successful integration of many of the acquisitions made in the UK by the group as well as playing a leading role in helping to enhance the operational and customer service performances of the Catering, Retail and Healthcare Supplies businesses.

In 2003, Martin was appointed Managing Director of Bunzl’s UK Retail and Healthcare Supplies Division. He was also a key member of the European Retail forum and chaired the Logistics forum.

Martin left Bunzl in early 2007 to join Casper Limited as Operations Director. He brings with him a wealth of experience in General Management, supply chain optimisation and the integration of acquisitions.

Martin is a keen horseracing supporter, being involved in both the breeding and ownership of some very successful racehorses over the last 10 years. He also enjoys watching all types of other sports, particularly motorsport.
Managing Director, Industrial Supplies
Peter Grist

Peter has grown up with Industrial Supplies quite literally. Peter’s father, Peter Grist Snr, was Chairman of the group for over 30 years and Peter regularly worked in the Peterborough warehouse during school holidays.

His career started at General Medium Ltd, creating ‘distance learning programmes’ for distributor sales people on behalf of Johnson Wax and Kimberly Clark. He then furthered his career in direct marketing working with organisations such as Freemans, Renault and Coca Cola. He led many award winning trade and consumer campaigns during this time and learned many of his project management skills in this environment.

Peter returned to the cleaning and hygiene industry in 1998, when he joined Industrial Supplies as General Manager of the Enfield branch. His appointment as Managing Director of Industrial Supplies in January 2007 meant a change of location. He is now based at the Peterborough head office where he overseas the operations of all 4 branches.

Outside of work Peter is a keen motorcyclist and will escape on his bike as much as his young family will allow. As a 'retired' rugby player, Peter enjoys following the internationals from the comfort of his armchair.
